I guess it goes back to my Father who was, since he was a young boy, Science Fiction crazy. I remember the bookshelves in the houses where I grew up were lined with Arthur C. Clarke, Isaac Asimov, Robert A. Heinlein, Ray Bradbury & many more. We watched all the Star Trek: The Original Series reruns together. I remember Star Trek TOS as long as I can remember anything.

We went to the opening night of Star Wars: A New Hope together. I was 9 years old. I saw it 8 more times in the theatre. We also went to the opening nights of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back and Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. We went to the opening nights of the first 2 Star Trek movies too.

Along the same vein but on a different tangent I got interested in the Japanese cartoon Star Blazers. My first anime series. Space Pirate Captain Harlock and Battle of the Planets next.

Gamer. Bigtime. Yes, growing up we had Pong, Atari 2600 etc but I got into PC gaming very early.

Now, I'm mostly a hand held gamer whether it be my PSP or PS Vita or my phone but I still game.
A lot.

Am I a geek? I think so but there are many more Uber geeks out there that I don't hold a candle to.
